From Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas:

By taxi:
two possibilities, you get to Las Terrenas directly after your international flight, which will normally make you arrive late (between 8 p.m. and midnight). Or you spend the night at Santo Domingo, it will take you 30 minutes to get to the city center by taxi and about 30 US$, you will find all kinds of hotels to spend the night. Then, the following day, you continue your journey to get to Las Terrenas by taxi, we advise you to stop at the "resto route" of Bonao, very nice cuisine. The journey takes about 4h, the price is about 180 US$, taxis have air conditioning and take maximum 4 persons.

By bus: the cheapest solution. You will have to spend a night at Santo Domingo because buses do not circulate at night. The day after your arrival you go to the Caribe Tours Bus station. Look up at their web site to know there schedule, there is a service several times per day between the capital and Sanchez, it takes about 4 h, and costs about 220 pesos (7 US$) per person, no reservation is possible. The bus goes to Sanchez, you will have to ask for the bus-stop to Las Terrenas and there you will have to take a gua-gua (collective taxi) that will take you to Las Terrenas (about 50 pesos during the day and from 200 to 300 pesos at night). Another solution, the concho (moto-taxi) for 100 pesos at day and the double at night. The bus station at Santo Domingo (for Caribe Tours bus) is at avenue 27 de Febrero corner with Leopoldo Navarro, the Sanchez one (for the gua-gua) is in front of the Texaco station and Las Terrenas’ one is in front of the Paseo de La Costanera.

By air: by regular or private flight. After spending the first night at Santo Domingo, the following day you take a taxi (30 minutes max. and about 200/300 pesos) to the Herrera national airport located at the West of Santo Domingo and take advantage of the regular flights of Aerodomca and Caribair. 30 minutes between Herrera and Portillo aerodrome, located at 4 kilometers from Las Terrenas. Panoramic fly over of the island with impressive view of the geography and the landscape. Tariff: 60 US$ per person for an outward journey. Half-tariff for children under 10. By private plane from Herrera national airport or from Las Americas international airport if your flight arrives early, find out in situ. The Portillo aerodrome is not prepared for night flights, so it is not possible to land after rough 6 p.m.

Note: all the prices are subjected to currency fluctuation and to the variations of oil price.

Get to Las Terrenas from Puerto Plata: it is easier to take a private taxi. Flights usually arrive in evenings; you will be at Las Terrenas at night. It takes about 3h30, and costs about 120 US$.

Get to Las Terrenas from Punta Cana: it is not recommended to arrive at Punta Cana if you are going to Las Terrenas, it will take you about 8 hours by taxi and the private flights are quite expensive.
